Talking about key menswear essentials, in my opinion, navy suit is for sure the most iconic garment, closely followed by the classic navy blue blazer.

There are many interpretations regarding what to be considered as a classic blazer, how to wear and how to combine it. But this is not what I want to write about. With this post, I rather want to give you some inspiration, how to wear the classic navy blazer with some modern twist.

When I think about classic navy blue blazer, the most common one would be double-breasted, made of worsted or flannel wool with brass or metal buttons, which is also one of the most timeless and iconic pieces out there. However, it might be a bit difficult to pull this one off during summer. Instead, I am choosing the “italian interpretation”. Still in classic look (double-breasted, classic metal buttons), but including some modern interpretations, like lighter fabrics (made of lightweight cotton/linen mix), some casual details (patched pockets – see also the separate breast patch pocket) and in light herringbone pattern. Those details, in my opinion, bring some fresh and contemporary look.

How I would combine it? As the blazer is clearly the key garment of this outfit, I try to keep the rest toned and simple. On top, I also ensure for the right contrast to the rest of the cloth (this helps to highlight the blazer even more). Therefore, the light grey-beige melange pants and the simple light blue shirt. Another component to mention is to watch that the fabrics of the trousers is similar to that of the blazer.

I also bring some small detail, like this white with some blue details pocket square. I chose this one in order to bring some additional contrast and to put the emphasis on the breast pocket, which is an interesting detail, in my opinion.

If you are regular visitor to my blog, my choice of the footwear would be nothing surprising to you. Pairing my outfit with the brown loafers (and sockless) just emphasizes the casual nature of the blazer and fits nicely into the summer season. I cannot see better choice of the footwear here.

I hope you enjoy this modern interpretation.

Truthfully yours,

Vlad
