Holidays are over, calendar summer slowly goes to its end (yes for me the fall actually starts end of September 🙂 ) and the fall season starts. Which is a very exciting for me from styling perspective and all the clothing and layering options it brings along.

Today I would like to share with you my favorite personal top picks for this fall. Specifically I would like to focus on the categories, which for some might not be that obvious, but in my opinion are must haves and real wardrobe staples. For the sake of today’s post I will deliberately avoid obvious essentials and picks like wool suits, coats, boots, regular leather jackets, browns, navys and greys – these items and colors have been standard in men’s collections for years and should not be lacking this season either.

1. Suede

Having its big come back couple of years ago to me the suede is the better version of the leather. Very elegant and versatile, suede is a must have for fall as well as in general in any men’s wardrobe. Whether it is suede jacket or shoes, you will see me wearing a lot of it this fall. Definitely on top of my list.

2. Patterned sports coats

Most probably a no brainer, but in my opinion, the sports coats are the ultimate essentials for fall. I would go with more classic colors and a bit more heavier and thicker materials, as this will ensure a lot of versatility and timeliness. This season I also opting for more patterns, specifically for gun club checks and houndstooth.

3. Turtle neck

Where regular sweater is a great choice as well, the turtle neck brings that additional note of sophistication and chic. Also super versatile, in my opinion, they look best in combination with suits, jackets or sport coats. As for fabrics, I would go with good quality materials, like cashmere or quality merino wool.

4. Denim shirt

Also highly applicable and used in summer, denim shirt should not be missed this fall as well. Classic, very versatile, can be combined both as casual as well as more formal. Very nice alternative to regular white or blue shirts and fitting nicely into fall compositions. Darker denim might be preferable.

5. Medium- or high-waisted pleaded trousers

We are getting tired from those super skinny and low rise pants. Medium- or high-waisted ones, ideally a bit slim fitted, those classic garments not only look good but also feel good as well. When going with deep pleads, proper fit is key to avoid to look too baggy in the waist area. As for colors, earth tones seem like a good choice here.

For consideration: corduroy

Not that much convinced, however might try some items this fall. Some garments always come back in style and that’s how it is with corduroy, which this season seem to be very popular in many men’s collections, and yet not so long ago, it was difficult to buy something else from this fabric outside the pants. It turns out that the corduroy comes back in style this season and will be widely used. These are not only pants, but also jackets, coats, jackets, suits.

For more inspiration of corduroy you can check the last collections of Brunello Cucinelli, Massimo Dutti and SuitSupply.

So here you go. I would be interested to hear from you if I missed any other interesting choices. Please let me know.

Truthfully yours,

Vlad
