There are different opinions if you should or should not wear white / light pants in autumn / winter season. Me personally, I am in favor to wear them all year round and would strongly encourage to do so. While there are some downsides to it, to me the aesthetics and sophistication it brings along is totally worth it. Today’s post is two of many ways how I wear them this season.
So what is so special about white pants in colder seasons? Well, in my opinion, first of all, the white/light pants create great basis and contrast to the rest of the outfit, thus very easy to create various combinations. Then, not that many people will wear them, setting you apart from the crowd. Also to me personally they exude elegance and sophistication. There is one downsides however, which is that they get dirty pretty quickly, especially with rainy, muddy weather.
If you want to wear white pants in colder seasons, they, obviously, have to be made of warmer fabrics. Most probably, the most known ones would be flannel or wool. Other one would be corduroy. I was mentioning in my previous articles that I would like to get my hands on corduroy, which is also new to my wardrobe. Having the opportunity to purchase the white corduroy pants, I decided to try them.
Talking about corduroy, this year is a big come back for the fabric and you can see it literally in every men’s collection, even though the fabric itself pretty much belongs to classic men’s wardrobe and is not new to style enthusiasts. I suppose that its visibility as well as awareness done by the menswear community this year made me try it, you can say I underwent the social pressure. If you want to get more information on corduroy fabric, I recommend this very much in depth article here.
In terms of combinations, in my opinion, white trousers work best in casual outfits. You do not want to wear them in business setting, as it might be too inappropriate, especially in autumn or winter. To me it pairs perfectly with bulky cable knit sweater, turtlenecks, somehow more casual coats and jackets. They go very well with higher shoes, like boots or chelsea boots, which are generally good for winter. I also like very much how they pair with suede (btw, I am also the fan to wear loafers all year round).
I hope this post will give you some inspiration and encouragement to wear white pants in colder seasons and maybe give a corduroy a chance as well. Enjoy the pictures below.
Truthfully yours,
Vlad
