Recently being on vacation I wanted to wear something that is easy going, but not to look like a typical tourist, wearing the t-shirt and shorts 😉 .In my opinion, the polo shirt is a great alternative for summer, if you want to wear something easy, yet look fresh and refined.
Often underseen the polo shirt had recently its’ comeback. Falling between a t-shirt and a dress shirt, it is the perfect garment for the many occasions.
Even in terms of casual everyday wear, the cool, breathable polo shirt is just as easy and comfortable as a t-shirt, but looks a notch more put together, so that swapping the former for the latter is an easy way to upgrade the summer style. In other words, the polo shirt is quite versatile and can be sartorially interesting. Truly, the polo shirt is a true men’s style staple.
The polo is a little classier than a t-shirt, and can be worn in pretty much any scenario. It’s all in how you dress it up or down. And there are quite a lot of possibilities how to wear it. It can be worn very casually, for example with some relaxed pants/shorts and sneakers. For more refined look it can be paired with more dressed pants, like chinos or even suit pants combined with some loafers. For more formal look, it can be even paired with a suit or a suit jacket and some formal leather footwear.
In my example, I wanted to go with the second option, something in between casual and formal. Pairing the polo with chinos or dress pants, in my opinion, is something you want to go for if you want to look more refined and dapper, yet still reasonably comfortable. To make the look even more interesting I chose those double pleaded chinos, giving that additional detail to stand out. Finishing with my favorite footwear – leather loafers 🙂
All in all, it’s easy to see the polo shirt as something that really only fits one restricted style, but there’s actually a number of ways you can wear this classic item. How you decide to style your polo shirt is up to you. Experimenting with styles, colors and designs will help to find one that works, and make it work for ones wardrobe and personal taste.
